Get a Grip on Split!

Diocletian palace, through the historical play of events, meant the beginning of a new settlement and life for the city, and with its well preserved ruins, still to this day makes up the heart of the city of Split and the center of all the important happenings, as well as the daily affairs of its citizens.

Proud citizens of Split would say "the prettiest in the world and vicinity!" To back this statement up, Split is one of the sunniest cities in Europe that offers unforgettable pictures to remember, picture of the antique palace harmoniously standing next to the newly built structures, and mediterranean and sub-tropical vegetation of palm and agave trees.

Ever lasting youthful Split, the city of lively mediterranean temperament is even more alive during the summer season, visited by many travelers that pass or stay a while since the city has the biggest airport and the sea port of the east coast in the Adriatic Sea. For those that decide to spend time and visit Split has to offer its long promenade by the sea. This promenade starts on the west side of the port, in the Marjan forest, continues through the green peninsula of Sustipan, passing by the 'Riva' surrounded by old walls of the palace and many cafes, all the way to the Bacvica- natural sand beach in the heart of the city. This place is a favorite playground for 'picigin', Croatian national sport, during the day time, while at night time it is a favorite gathering place for young people.

For those that seek culture, places inside the palace are not to be forgotten; they are remnants of the palace walls and the great entrance to the palace, Saint Duje bell, Peristil, or the museum hidden inside palace's basement. Besides visiting the palace, cathedral, streets and squares, museums and galleries, there are other places near by Split that are worth of paying a visit. Such places are: remnants of the antique city of Salone, middle age fortress Klis that was used to protect the city from conquerors of the north, and another beautiful option is getting on a fairy boat that would take you to one of the islands of the mid Dalmatia.
